Culaccino - Brown Light.
In 2022 I was given the amazing opportunity to work with the band Culaccino on their most recent single's cover which I also adapted to a banner and poster. I was asked by the band to emulate this feeling of inner turmoil and invasive thoughts, they had also seen my work in the past and wanted one of my characters holding a lamp as the main motif. I was also sent a demo of the song to use as inspiration, from there I started working.
The pose of the character holding the lamp is to emulate the baroque period where the focal point of art was a lot of desperation, this art period also showed intense use of shadow and dark points to highlight the emotions of the subject. I wanted the subject to be leaning into the lamp but being held back by the invasive thoughts. As I kept listening to the demo I wanted to emulate that desolate environment in the lyrics, and have wanted to have people coming out of the desolate land holding back the subject. I wanted to visualise how it feels to be debilitated by invasive thoughts and inner turmoil. For the lighting of this art I want the sole point to be the lamp, so the shadows allow for you to only barely see the people pulling the subject down.
